TIME CAPSULE
11-06-2010

A look back, into our past is a great way to predict our future and how a community, in this case school community, will grow and evolve.

Enterrando la cápsula de tiempo

A look into our past and our hopes for the future also helps us elucidate where we expect to be and what you expect to accomplish as individuals and with the cooperation of others. This is, in essence, the objective of building a time capsule with the help of the student body.

A time capsule is a look at the feeling of the students at a certain point in time. It is a look into the mind of our kids within the SEK community. A snapshot of feelings, emotions, thoughts, likes and dislikes, all wrapped up in a box and stored away for at least the following 5 years. The main objective of the ceremony held this past Friday June 11th at 8:00 am was precisely that. Gauge the general feel of the students for such an important activity, where they themselves are the protagonists, creating a milestone for future generations to read and experience.

After a brief explanation on behalf of the science teacher’s, the time capsule was lowered into the hole in the ground. Students from different grades, who participated in its creation, symbolically threw a bit of dirt onto the time capsule before it was completely covered and sealed for the next 5 years.

We are left with some of the thoughts of the children on the whole activity:

“Puedo ver lo que pasaba en el 2010 y ver como era diferente en ese entonces”. Tamara Miranda Ulate 4°B

“I like the time capsule because it represents the feelings of the childhood we once had, friends, teachers, and good moments". Adrián Alejandro Morales Medina 6°A

“Yo pienso que es muy creativo e interesante”.Kevin Torres 3°B

“Es una buena idea porque van a ver como éramos. Cuando vayan a la pradera y vean la tierra, escarben y abran la capsula, tendrán un sentido de emoción y descubrimiento.”. Elena Patricia Sanchez Martinez 5°A
